Done Windows 9 might come as a free download, but only to certain users By Chris Smith June 23, 2014 3:30 PM 0 shares View photo Windows 9 might come as a free download, but only to certain users Microsoft will release a second major Windows 8.1 update this year Windows 8.1 Update 2 which will be available free of charge to Windows 8.1 Update 1 users , hacker group WZOR has revealed. The group also says that Microsoft willsell Windows 8.1 Update 2 for an affordable price to Windows users who are running earlier Windows versions on their machines and want to upgrade to the latest OS version. WZOR also revealed that Windows 9 might be released as a free update for Windows users whohave Windows 8.1 Update 2 installed, or at a substantial discount. Apparently a decision on the matter has not been made yet. Previous reports from the same source have also indicated that Microsofts upcoming major Windows release may be available as a free download . Finally, WZOR has apparently revealed that Windows 9 Enterprise may have the ability to disable Metro 2.0. The company is expected to have a significant internal event from June 23rd through June 27th, at which point Windows 8.1 Update 2 might receive an RTM Escrow status. The hacker group said that Microsoft has tightened its Windows security, making leaks nearly impossible apparently, employees that want to use the latest builds will get personal Windows copiesthat will make it easy for the company to track down leakers. The new security polices around unreleased versions of Windows are apparently targeting Microsofts China offices in particular, with the country being a major source of Windows-related leaks in the past.

Google Finds Critical Security Flaw In Windows 7, 8.1 Anti-malware Software

The vulnerability was discovered by Google security engineer Tavis Ormandy, who has a good track on Microsoft software bugs, but the Redmond-based tech giant says that it’s not yet aware of any exploits trying to take advantage of this flaw. In the security advisory published this morning, Microsoft confirmed that all but two of its anti-malware products are affected by the flaw, including Forefront Client Security, Security Essentials stable and prerelease, Windows Defender, and Intune Endpoint Protection. Windows Defender is running on the majority of Windows products, including Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows RT 8.1. Microsoft is releasing this security advisory to inform customers that an update to the Microsoft Malware Protection Engine addresses a security vulnerability that was reported to Microsoft, Microsoft says in the advisory released today. The vulnerability could allow denial of service if the Microsoft Malware Protection Engine scans a specially crafted file. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could prevent the Microsoft Malware Protection Engine from monitoring affected systems until the specially crafted file is manually removed and the service is restarted. The company says that it has already started providing a fix to the affected machines and all clients will get it automatically as it’s installed along with the updated malware definitions for the affected products. At the same time, Redmond says that no action is recommended, since the update should reach your computer sometime within the next 48 hours. Typically, no action is required of enterprise administrators or end users to install updates for the Microsoft Malware Protection Engine, because the built-in mechanism for the automatic detection and deployment of updates will apply the update within 48 hours of release. The exact time frame depends on the software used, Internet connection, and infrastructure configuration, it stated. Windows XP users who are already running Security Essentials will also get the update because it’s delivered together with new malware definitions. Microsoft promised to keep existing Security Essentials installations alive until mid-2015, so the existing users running this particular security app on Windows XP should be on the safe side as well, with the update to be deployed on their computers in the next 48 hours as well.

April Windows 7 Patch Needed to Get June IE Updates – Yahoo News

Several of its built-in utilities havent really evolved since their inception. Take Chromes bookmarks manager for example. Its not too bad, I mean, it does what its supposed to do, however, thats about it. There is nothing fancy. Pine for Chrome, however, can help you sort that out. It lets you organize similar bookmarks by attaching a tag to them. Also, it lets you get a quick preview and YouTube screenshots of links. Its pretty handy. Hush (Chrome) We talked about the bookmark manager of Chrome. Theres one more thing that you might have noticed on the browser. And that is that it doesnt let you save bookmarks in incognito mode. You can use the Chrome extension Hush, which allows you to do just that. Another handy feature from the service is it allows you to set passwords for those bookmarks. Goal for Firefox FIFA World Cup 2014 started recently, and we have already heard a lot of complaints from the people who are having trouble live streaming the games. If you too are one such angry user, and are fine with text updates, popular service Goal has launched a Firefox extension for you. Ballloon (Chrome) Ballloon for Chrome lets you save Web files, images, links directly to your Dropbox and Google Drive account.

Done April Windows 7 Patch Needed to Get June IE Updates By Tom’s Guide / Jill Scharr June 16, 2014 3:14 PM 0 shares View photo April Windows 7 Patch Needed to Get June IE Updates Sometimes people forget to update their computers when a new software patch is released. Sometimes they don’t realize they should. And sometimes they just don’t want to update. If you use Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 7 and you haven’t installed Microsoft’s April security update to Explorer, then you won’t be able to install the much larger June IE update, and you won’t receive any further updates to IE 11 including important security patches until you do. Furthermore, if you’re a Windows 7 user and you don’t have the April Windows 7 IE 11 patch installed, not only will future Internet Explorer patches not install, but they won’t even appear in your Windows Update queue of recommend updates. MORE: Best PC Antivirus Software 2014 Microsoft had previously warned Windows 8.1 users that they had to update to a later version of Windows 8.1 in order to receive any security patches beyond June 10. Now, according to a technically dense Microsoft support document , it seems Windows 7 users are also being required to update something now to get more updates later. In this case, however, ignoring the April update only affects Internet Explorer 11. This requirement immediately affects Windows 7 users who depend on Windows Update to keep their computers patched mostly consumers and small and medium-size businesses. Enterprise users, who use different updating software, have until August 12 to install the April IE patches. The April IE update contained no major changes to Microsoft’s products, so if you’ve been regularly downloading updates, you should be fine installing it. If, for whatever reason, you don’t want to, you can always replace Internet Explorer 11 with a different browser. Emailjscharr@tomsguide.comor follow her @JillScharr and Google+ . Supreme Court Raises Bar On Software Patent Claims – Cnet

presented by The U.S. Supreme Court building in Washington, DC. Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images A new US Supreme Court ruling may give the technology industry a new weapon in its continuing battle against so-called patent trolls. In a decision announced Thursday morning, the court’s nine justices ruled unanimously to dismiss a previous patent the government had awarded to an Australian company for business software. In issuing its ruling in Alice Corporation v. CLS Bank, the court set a higher standard for patent awards, saying Alice Corp. did not deserve a patent for generic computer implementation of an abstract idea. “We conclude that the method claims, which merely require generic computer implementation, fail to transform that abstract idea into a patent-eligible invention,” Justice Clarence Thomas said, writing for the court. The case centered on claims by shell company Alice Corporation that CLS Bank, a currency-trading organization, had infringed on patents owned by Alice for the computer-based exchange of financial obligations. The patents claimed a unique method for exchanging those financial obligations, the computer system configuration necessary to implement that method, and the software code itself required for the exchange. Related stories End of an era? Patentability of business method patents The court consistently has upheld the idea that abstract ideas, such as methods of doing business, are not patentable. This could call into question thousands of patents, as Thomas explained that “the mere recitation of a generic computer cannot transform a patent-ineligible abstract idea into a patent-eligible invention.” He applied the same logic to Alice’s other patent claims of unique method and unique medium. In his opinion, Justice Thomas referenced two previous patent cases in an attempt to clarify the US patent system. He referred to Bilski v. Kappos , a patent case from 2010 that the court split on, 5-4, and found that software which reduced risk-hedging to a mathematical formula was not eligible for a patent because that behavior was “a fundamental economic practice.” “It is enough to recognize that there is no meaningful distinction between the concept of risk hedging in Bilski and the concept of intermediated settlement at issue here,” Thomas said. He also relied on the 2013 Supreme Court case, Association for Molecular Pathology v. Myriad Genetics, Inc., which said genes can not be patented, to emphasize that the court has a 150-year history of declining to support patents that attempt to codify abstract ideas. Thomas did provide an exception, citing 1981’s Diamond v.

Announcing Telerik Nativescript – Cross-platform Framework For Building Native Mobile Applications

Expose Native platform APIs to JavaScript. Existing native platform APIs are available out of the box. No need to write plugins, or any wrappers to access the native API with JavaScript. If the API is available in the native platform it will be available to you in the JavaScript layer. I should also note that future native platform updates are available immediately in the JavaScript layer for use by the developer. There is no need from additional wrappers, only NativeScript framework should be rebuild to include the new APIs from the native platform. Native User Interface – you will be able use NativeScript class libraries to produce native user interface. Developers will be able to use the default native platform UI capabilities or add 3rd party libraries which are available to be consumed out of the box (no need for wrappers or anything else – just include the libraries in the project). Cross Platform UI abstractions – available will be full UI abstraction to build the application UI. All the UI code will be shared – you do not need prior Android, iOS or Windows knowledge. Our cross-platform abstraction includes the following components UI components abstraction Layout abstractions – linear(stack) panel, grid panel, canvas layout and more Markup UI declaration MVC-esque framework including bindings support When you build the application UI you will use our libraries which abstracts the differences between the native platforms. These libraries internally will be smart enough to know how to render themselves in the target native platform and to use the native components (being the default native components or 3rd party ones). This way your application will use the native User Experience – gestures, positioning, layout, navigation – everything will be done using the native paradigms and rendered using the underlying native platform. One important note I should make here is that developers will also be able to write separate Views/Screens for a specific platform platform if they need to.

Microsoft Finally Has Some Good News For Windows 8.1 – Yahoo News

Please enter a valid phone number. Please enter your Phone Number. Send Thanks! A link has been sent. Done Microsoft finally has some good news for Windows 8.1 By Jacob Siegal 13 hours ago 0 shares View photo Microsoft finally has some good news for Windows 8.1 When Tim Cook took the stage yesterday, he was out for blood . One of his most vicious attackscame in the form of an OS market share comparison, in which he noted that while Mavericks had already been installed on more than half of OS X computers, Windows 8 was still struggling to top 15%. Theres no doubt that Microsoft is struggling to convince users to migrate, but the latest data from Net Applications has a silver lining: Windows 8.1 has finally attained a higher market share than Windows 8. As The Next Web points out, it has taken Windows 8.1 seven months to overtake its predecessor, which has all but stalled out in terms of growth. In fact, Windows 8 actually lost 0.07% of the market share while Windows 8.1 snagged 0.47%, combining for a disappointing 0.40% growth of all Windows 8 software. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Windows 7 has continued to grow at a faster rate than Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 combined, bringing in an additional 0.79% of the market to push the last-gen OS over 50% of the total share. Windows XP has finally started its steady decline now that Microsoft has ended support for the 13-year-old OS once and for all , but it still retains over 1/4 of the market share. OS X might not be in contention for the most popular operating system, but keeping customers up-to-date with the latest software has given Apple a major PR advantage over the fragmented Windows audience.
