Microsoft Begins Rollout Of Windows Phone 8.1 Os Update – Forbes

Today, Microsoft announced that the update will be available soon for Lumia users, along with the Cyan firmware update. Though the announcement is right on track, it appears that so far no carriers are offering the update, listing the update still as under testing. For Windows Phone 8 users, this is a major update, offering an improved lock screen, a new action center, and changes to the start screen. 8.1 also offers a beta of Cortana, the much-hyped about virtual assistant that rivals Apples Siri. Theres also bundled Skype, Internet Explorer 11, and a slew of other new features and changes to improve the user experience with 8.1. Additionally, when 8.1 rolls out to Lumia users within the next few days weeks, their phones will also get the Cyan firmware update. This update, which improves imaging, will improve many other features on the devices includingapps like Nokia Camera, Creative Studio and Storyteller.Microsoft Mobile explains that theNokia Camera will get a simplified user interface with one-tap access to edit and share pictures, and full-resolution zooming and re-framing, as part of this update, and users will also be able to access Creative Studio 6 directly from the Camera Roll. Another update with Cyan isa new Nokia Device Hub that helps track when and where you last used Nokia accessories with your handset. According to Microsoft Mobile, this will help you track down a missing accessory, which may sound a little unnecessary, but could potentially help you discover accessories you need. So when exactly will all these updates be rolling out? Microsoft, true to form, wasnt very clear in their statement, but did say The Lumia Cyan update will start rolling out around the world today and will be available for all Windows Phone 8 Lumia devices in the coming weeks. That said, it could be up to several months for your carrier to roll out the update, so keep your eye on the Software Update for Nokia Lumia with Windows Phone 8 page to find out when your device will be eligible to upgrade to 8.1
